Skin Care.

Sorry, I had no fancy phrase or title for this blog post. Lol. But, I'm excited to share my daily, weekly and life long skin care "routine" with ya'll!

Here I am. Me in all my fresh face glory. I've been blessed to have pretty decent skin (on my face) since I can remember. I've struggled with dry skin since I was a baby, luckily, that's under control now too. Now that I'm very much into beating my face, I need to make sure I'm taking care of the skin underneath the makeup. I don't wear makeup every day outside of mascara and lip gloss, but when I dooo...woooo baby! I like to glow, honey! So, we'll get into what I use for make up as well. But, first things first, skin.

I'll start by saying the following products are my favorite and I use them faithfully. However, if something else pops up on sale, I will buy/try that too! I very seldom have break outs from a product, possibly because I try to use more natural and scent/color free products. Only time I'll have breakouts is when Aunt Flow brings her funky ass around, and even then, they're minimal. Those pimples tend to go away quickly. Unfortunately, they will sometimes leave dark spots. To add insult to injury, I'm a pimple popper (I know, bad habit). So that makes the dark spots worse. You'd think I'd learn my lesson, but nah. Hard headed af.

Typically, my skin tends to be oily, especially during the summer. During the winter months its still oily after moisturizing, no matter what I use but - it is dry directly AFTER I wash my face so I have to moisturize immediately. Since I'm just now realizing I didn't take a photo of it, I'll just tell ya'll that I use Aveeno Unscented Daily Moisturizing lotion for my face. At night, I spray Rose Water (which will be pictured below). Noooow lets get into product talk!

First things first, this is my baby. I've been using this every day for years and I can instantly see the glow after. It provides a really mild exfoliating factor to get off all the dirt and gunk you gather throughout the day. I scrub this in for about 30 seconds, all over my face (avoiding the eyes) AND neck. It also smells good. I'm sure it can be found at pretty much any drug store and the holy grail we know as Target and it's about $8.

If you really have some breakouts, this baby right here works wonders. Alba Botanica Acnedote Face & Body Scrub (Target, TJ Max $10) can be used to exfoliate your face and body. Its heavier, so be careful not to scrub to hard on your face. I use this after cleanser once or twice a week.

**Quick tip - wash/moisturize your damn face twice a day. I hate to see someone sleep with their makeup on! Those poor pores! Wash before and after makeup application and use Micellar Water to cleanse after makeup removal. Also, water...drink it.

Can you tell I love Aveeno products?! It's a sick obsession, honestly. But they work (for me)! I don't break out and I see an instant glow in my skin right after use. This one is no different. I tend to use the Brightening Cleanser (also found at Target) after I exfoliate, it helps get all that excess dirt up off me. $7-$10

**NEW PRODUCT ALERT** I've only been using this for 3 days and I LOVE IT. Shout out to my momma for picking this up for me. This exfoliant MELTS into your skin, literally. It smells AMAZING and instantly brightens my skin tone. I have a few blemishes/dark spots and I see the lightening up already, and I've quite literally had this product since Sunday. I'm obsesssssssed. This is a L'Oreal product and momma found it at CVS. Momma found a coupon for this bad boy, so I believe it was about $8.

I know (some) of ya'll are looking at this pic like "what the f*ck is this?" Welp, LET ME TELL YOU's the shit. A fresh Aloe Vera leaf. This can be found at your local grocery store (Whole Foods) and it's about $2. I am a huge fan of Scottie Beam, one of the hosts of Black Girl Podcast & State of The Culture. Her skin in impeccable so, I try to use some of the same products and I got this little trick from her! Cut up the aloe and rub the gel on your face. Simple. I keep my aloe mask on a minimum of 15 minutes. You can keep it on as long as you like, even overnight. I try to do an aloe mask weekly, when I remember to pick them up at the grocery store. Honestly, my mother normally grabs it for me, again, shout out to her! It will help even your skin tone, get rid of most of those stubborn blemishes, soothe sunburn, reduce acne and infection and fights aging (although Black don't crack, we can still preserve it). You can also use this for your hair and scalp to promote moisture and help control dandruff (use it after you shampoo, before you condition to ensure you rinse it all out)! It aids with wound healing as well. It's an all around bomb CHEAP AND NATURAL product. The video below will show you how to cut it open. Make sure you refrigerate or freeze after you cut it.

My girl in Charlotte put me on to this a few years ago. Indian Healing Clay ( I found it at Whole Foods for $8). Once I researched it, I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it. I use this mask weekly. You can literally feel it pulsating on your face once it hardens. Mix about tablespoon with warm water or ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar). Apply to your face (avoid your eyes obviously) and let it sit for about 20-30 minutes. After 5 minutes, you'll start feeling it work. It may be uncomfortable during your first time doing it, but I promise the results are worth it. You also want to do this after you cleanse your face. Rinse the mask with warm water, not hot. **Quick tip, never use HOT water on your face. That will keep your pores open for too long.** I hear you can use this in your hair, I just haven't tried it yet.

Last, but definitely not least, moisturizing! These lil' babies give me life. Nordstrom Rack had this 3 pack during holidays for about $10, however, they always carry the Rose Water by itself for $5. After my nightly routine, I spray a generous amount all over my face in addition TINY DAB of coconut oil to keep me moisturized throughout the night. I use these often in the summer for a lighter moisturizer since I know I'll get oily throughout the day. The Rose Water doubles as a setting spray for your makeup as well!

Speaking of makeup, let's get into that shit. Ya'll know I stan for Bey and Rih, and Rih came in the makeup game and turned that bitch upside down. I live! Again, I don't wear makeup everyday. Mainly because it takes too long and I already push it getting to work on time. So, here are some of my faves from her (and others) & how I use them.

I really love a dark lip, don't I?

Primer is primer to me. I haven't used any particular brand that has done more than the other. Before I got Fenty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer, I was using Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer. Did the same shit so...whatever...LMAO. Mini version is $16 @ Sephora.

First up, foundation. When Rih first launched Fenty Beauty I couldn't find my damn shade anywhere. I went to the huge Sephora in NYC and figured they had to have it. Of course not. The employee ended up putting me on to Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation ($47 @Sephora). It's great! It gives you a more dewy look, and I use it more in the winter months so I don't look matte and dry. I believe my shade is 465 Suede C. When I finally got my hands on Fenty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 420 ($34 @ Sephora), I wasn't wild impressed until I wore it. It lasts all day and doesn't make me look crazy even during the warmer months. Plus, it literally melts into your skin. Take my money Rihanna. Take it. I apply both with a Sephora Collection Pro Diffuser Brush #64.

If I do decide to throw a little something on before work it'll be concealer (applied with a Beauty Blender) if necessary. To cover those dark spots, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chocolat ($30 @ Sephora) has been my go-to for a while... ya'll can see I'm damn near out, don't judge me. Since Fenty released their Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Concealer ($26 @ Sephora), I figured I'd try it out and see how it works. I'll update ya'll on that soon , I just got it on Friday.

URBAN DECAY DE-SLICK MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY ($32 @ Sephora) IS THE SHIT AND I'M NOT ASKING. Period. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($39 @ Sephora) will keep you mattified all day. GOAT shit.

Last but definitely not least... GLOW. HIGHLIGHTER. THE BEST THING EVER CREATED. I just turn into such a fairy princess whenever this goes on! These are all Fenty products shown in this photo ($34 @ Sephora), however, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Deposit (Macys $35) has been one of my faves for a while. Put this everywhere, with a brush, with your finger. Doesn't matter! Under your brow bone, cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, cupids bow and they can be used as eye shadow (spray your brush with A LITTLE water first). PUT IT EVERYWHERE.

Lips ... I honestly use whatever I like. I have plenty of drug store and high end lip gloss and lip stick. Fenty Gloss Bomb in Fussy is my current favorite along with Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in 02 Rose Crush. Lip liner fave is MAC Nightmoth. For moisture, Vaseline with Cocoa butter and Zandra's Big Balm in Japanese Kumquat ( shout out the young, black Queen). Since it's Black History Month, I'm making a conscious effort to purchase from Black Business. Zandra is one, and her products can be found in Whole Foods and Target! I also just purchased the Nubian 2 Eye Shadow Pallet from Juvia's and I'm super excited to use it. Maybe I'll do a makeup tutorial soon?! Who knows!!

Now that I realize I spend way too much money on makeup, I'm gonna go cry now.
